The Individual and Family CHOICES Program

Making the world a better person, one family at a time.

Clinical Supervison

All Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors in Pennsylvania are required to obtain clinical supervision toward the completion of licensure. In states other than PA, clinical supervisors are required to show proof of formalized training in the provision of clinical supervision because there is growing recognition in the field of the differing skills required in clinical supervision apart from competency as a professional helper. A great and fabulous professional helper does not automatically become a competent and skilled clinical supervisor.

While any licensed Clinical Social Worker, Professional Counselor or Marriage and Family Therapist can provide clinical supervision to a junior member of the field pursuing licensure, the following links provide some important guidelines in the selection of and negotiation with a prospective clinical supervisor.

She has a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the Pennsylvania State University as well as specialty tracks in Human Development and Family Studies and Rehabilitation and Human Servcies. She is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) through the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE), the organization approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) to certify elligible professionals for the supervision of professional counselors pursuing licensure and certification. This credential assures that Lois has the qualifications required to provide high quality clinical supervision and consultation in professional development.

In addition to her formal training and her clinical supervision credential, Lois is now an Approved EMDR Consultant (EMDRIA) which means that she is qualified to consult with professionals who have been formally trained in EMDR who are pursuing Certified Clinician stratus. She is also a Certified Therapist in Internal Family Systems through the Center for Self Leadership which means that she can provide consultation in IFS for those post Level 1 clinicians pursuing IFS certification.
